Clinic of the Month Spotlight
March 2025 Spotlight: Interprofessional Community Clinic at Rosalind Franklin University in Chicago, Illinois
The Interprofessional Community Clinic (ICC) is a student-run free clinic dedicated to providing holistic, patient-centered care to underserved populations. Our clinic is built on the foundation of interprofessional collaboration, bringing together students and faculty from various healthcare disciplines to address the medical, social, and systemic barriers our patients face.
One of our key initiatives this year has been the implementation of vitals and diabetes kits, which empower patients to take an active role in managing their health outside of clinic visits. These kits include blood pressure cuffs, glucometers, and educational materials designed to enhance patient understanding and self-monitoring. By equipping patients with these tools, we have seen improvements in their ability to track and manage chronic conditions, leading to more informed discussions during follow-up visits.
A particularly impactful patient interaction involved an individual with newly diagnosed hypertension who was hesitant about starting medication. After receiving a vitals kit and learning how to monitor their blood pressure at home, they felt more in control of their health. At their follow-up, they shared that seeing their blood pressure trends helped them make lifestyle adjustments and ultimately feel more confident in their treatment plan. This initiative exemplifies how education, access, and empowerment can lead to sustainable health improvements.
Through initiatives like these, the ICC continues to bridge gaps in healthcare, ensuring that our patients not only receive high-quality care during their visits but also gain the tools and knowledge necessary to maintain their well-being long-term.
